Work requires sacrifice

It is a sad poem about the work. Waiting for work in the rain for a long time, then “somewhere ahead a man is waiting who will say, ‘No, we're not hiring today’”. It is a hard work time. Maybe like today.
“You know what work is--if you're old enough to read this you know what work is, although you may not do it.” I think so. We have a lot of good dreams about our future’ works when we are young. However, when we grow up, we have enough work experiences and then we know that work doesn’t like what we thought before. Most of works are hard. They require sacrifice- “forget you”—I think this is what work is. No matter you do physical work or service work, you lose some part of you—body or mind. This is common for the works, so you may not have dreams for any other kind of works when you old enough. The book Working and Nickel and Dimes also talk about sacrifice of works.

Does gender affect one’s work?

Once I asked my parents that what kind of job they want me to get in the future, they said that it depends on my ability and interest. At that time, I think I can apply for any kind of job if I am able to. However, my opinion changed when I tried to find a part time job in the USA.

Half a year ago, I read newspaper to try to find a job. That was the first time I looked for a job. I found something surprising. Some of hiring advertisings there are words “men only” or “women only”. At that moment, I realized that a certain kind of job not only requires one’s ability, but it also concerns one’s gender.

That was really happened to me in my later job. I applied a job in a supermarket. That time there were several jobs available in different departments of the store. However, when I went to meet the manager, he looked at me and gave me the sheet for only applying for cashier. When I got that job, I found that there were no women workers in other departments except cashiers’. I talked this with one of my workmates. She said: “of course, you can work in other departments if you were a man.”

What contribute to one's status?

I want to talk about what gives status to my family and my neighborhoods in my village.
If someone goes to my village, he/she will find that most of the houses are tall. This is not because people there are rich, but because this is a thing that they think can give them high status . As a result, in my village, people do their best to build a high house for their family even though they can just eat turnip everyday. My father and mother also think so. They work hard and want to build a high house in my village even though we have already left our country. This is their value and brief. They believe that no matter where they stay, a good and high house in the village can represent many things of them, such as ability, personality and also riches. However, I don't agree. I think it doesn't present anything but vanity. Just like a person, if he only has a good appearance but lack of self-cultivation, maybe he will be appreciated in a short term, but what about a long term? I think education is one of important factors that can contribute to people's status because it can help people get good self-cultivation, good relationship, and also power!

One day of my work

I wake up at 6:30 in the morning. Enjoying my time at the restroom. Having a healthy breakfast. And then I will check if I have already taken everything that should with me. Before I leave my home, I will stand in front of the big mirror and smile to myself. Then I will drive to my workplace which is a six floors building sits in a commerce street. My office is in the top of the building. My workmates are easy to going. In our office there are many note boards which are used for record something important for us. In a corner of our office, there are many valuable photos which can always remain us the happiness time we had. I brought some plants to my office and planted in the office's balcony before. Thus my workmates can get relaxation when they spend time in balcony. Now with their good care, the plants grow well. In the afternoon, we go outside to have lunch together as usual. After work, we do some shopping nearby. So my work day is end with happiness. I enjoy every day of my work.
